Somerford Keynes

A village of around 120 homes with a church, village hall and pub. Most of the homes are detached and of various ages and nearly all have oil fired central heating and with private cesspits. Most homes are located along two main streets with a few cul-d-sack roads off these.

There are a number of lakes nearby, one of which is owned by the village. Plus the River Thames runs close to the village. The ground has a lot of gravel (the lakes were originally gravel extraction pits) and there is believed to be an aquifer around 50m down.

Lower Mill Estate

A private estate with around 400 homes with a Spa, restaurant and a number of swimming pools and a large number of signal story shared storage barns. Most of the homes are detached and of various ages in most cases since 2000. Most have shared Calor Gas heating (individual boilers, with shared tanks and pipe network). A few have oil or electric heating.  Sewage is private within the estate and pumped to Thames Water for processing. We are engaging with the landlord who owns the private estate, Habitat First Group.

Most homes are located around lakes or close to lakes. Plus the River Thames runs through to the estate. The ground has a lot of gravel (the lakes were originally gravel extraction pits) and there is believed to be an aquifer around 50m down.

Thames Head Energy is a community energy social enterprise. Initially, we are registered as an Ltd company (#14520406), click here to view our details on Companies House. Seven of the community energy champions are directors of the company, ensuring there is no one person with “significant control”.

Ltd company is a temporary measure as we go through the process of registering as a Community Benefit Society. We plan to convert as we get closer to realising the solar farm, where we will need the CBS structure for community share offer fund raising and future profit distribution. Once complete Thames Head Energy Ltd will become Thames Head Energy CBS.

We also intend to set up an associated Thames Head Energy registered charity as the vehicle to distribute 100% of the net profits back to the community and potentially access funds only available to charities.
