Home Energy Efficiency

The energy efficiency of our homes obviously affects our energy usage, but it can also affect which home heating options are viable. The initiative will both assess the efficiency and provide advice on how to improve home insulation and overall heat efficiency.

How It Works

Improve Efficiency

Measures such as insulation, double glazing, draft excluders, etc. can reduce heat loss

Smart Thermostats

can reduce energy use by intelligently controlling the temperature of your overall home and with smart radiator thermostats even individual rooms

Radiator Upgrades

and underfloor heating can improve the heat output possible when using lower temperature water from some heat pumps

For homes participating in the community home heating initiative, it will be necessary to understand both their energy and heating efficiency – i.e. how well they retain heat and how much energy their heating can output into the house at a given water temperature. To get an accurate picture surveys will likely be required, and some initial ideas may be possible from the home’s EPC.

For everyone, we will share advice on how to maximise energy and heating efficiency.

You can search the government’s EPC register to see if your home already has a rating and any improvement advice associated with it here
