Home Heating and Cooling
Heating our homes is responsible for around 7 tonnes a year of our emissions as well as a large expense. The majority of homes in Somerford Keynes have oil heating, while the majority at Lower Mill Estate use Calor Gas. There are a few homes with electric or heat pump heating.
There are multiple routes that could be taken to replace the gas and oil heating by taking a community approach that could be faster and more cost-effective than individual houses migrating. Given the multiple routes the initial step would be to get expert advice to help evaluate the best options and investigate if any government grants could be applied for – we could be a large scheme that attracts government interest in an area where there is a lot of government and private investment. Some of these options can also be used to cool homes during the summer.

Existing Heating Improvements
Homes that are already using zero-emission heating, such as electric or heat pumps should benefit from electricity cost savings from the community energy initiative. They may also benefit from some of the advice on heat efficiency and heating upgrades.
